Santos Hernandez (1874 - 1943)

Spain

Santos Hernández, born in Madrid, learned guitar making under Manuel Ramírez. In 1919, he established his own workshop in Madrid, where he crafted numerous masterpieces until his death in 1943.

As one of the most important and representative luthiers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Santos Hernández is believed to have been the actual maker of the famous 1912 Manuel Ramírez guitar, which became renowned as the instrument used by Andrés Segovia during his early career.
