Robert Ruck (1945 - 2018)

United States of America

Robert Ruck is one of America’s most respected luthiers, admired by many guitar makers worldwide. His methods of guitar construction have influenced prominent luthiers such as Matthias Dammann and Andres Marvi, among others. Beginning his career as a specialist guitar maker in 1966, Ruck produced over 1,000 guitars throughout his lifetime, earning him recognition for his prolific output.

Deeply inspired by the traditional instruments of historical luthiers like Torres, Hauser, and Simplicio, Ruck studied their designs extensively and incorporated those influences into his own unique style. One of his notable models was based on his 1972 guitar, famously used by his representative artist, Manuel Barrueco.

Ruck’s guitars have been used in recordings and performances by renowned musicians such as Manuel Barrueco, Sharon Isbin, Pepe Romero, Celin Romero, and Leo Brouwer. His instruments are so highly sought after that acquiring one is said to require a waiting period of over 20 years, reflecting his immense popularity and the esteem in which his craftsmanship is held by guitarists worldwide.
