Bertrand Ligier is a French luthier renowned for crafting refined instruments in the French tradition. He studied art history at Montpellier University, where he explored the essential history of painting, architecture, and archaeology from ancient times to the 20th century. He was particularly fascinated by the history of Renaissance painting and France’s celebrated Impressionism.
After his studies, he pursued education and training in woodworking and furniture making, gaining experience in cabinetmaking through internships in workshops. During this time, he developed the ability to craft various styles of furniture, including intricate veneering work, and acquired the skills needed to restore antique furniture from bygone eras.
Having played classical guitar for ten years, Ligier developed a profound interest in the instrument itself. Combining his woodworking expertise with guitar-making techniques, he began to craft instruments alongside furniture, seamlessly integrating his knowledge and passion into creating unique and artistic guitars.
